About Us

A Community Integrated Living Arrangement (CILA) Provider

Supporting Individuals With Developmental Disabilities For Over Forty Years.

At Marion County Horizon Center (MCHC), we are dedicated to fostering independence and providing opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to lead meaningful lives. Since our founding in 1976, we have been committed to offering high-quality, person-centered services that empower those we serve.

Initially operating as an 82-bed ICF-DD facility in Salem, Illinois, MCHC was an early leader in developing 16-bed homes throughout Southern Illinois. In 2013, we shifted our focus to Community Integrated Living Arrangements (CILAs), prioritizing smaller, community-focused living environments across Central, Metro-East, and Southern Illinois.

Community Integrated Living Arrangements (CILAs) are residential homes for 1-8 adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. These homes provide 24-hour care, funded through a combination of state and federal programs. In addition to traditional residential homes, we also offer 24-hour supported apartment options funded by the CILA Waiver.

Our Individualized Approach

At MCHC, we recognize that every individual has unique dreams, goals, and preferences. We take a highly individualized approach to programming, ensuring that each person has the opportunity to experience activities and develop skills that align with their personal outcomes. From fostering new friendships to exploring hobbies and gaining independence, our goal is to enrich every aspect of the lives of those we serve.

Enriching Community Opportunities

MCHC is proud to offer a variety of activities designed to promote engagement, joy, and a sense of accomplishment. Individuals have access to programs like Special Olympics, bowling, swimming, fishing trips, vacations within Illinois and sometimes out of state, and outings to local and professional sporting events such as baseball games. Frequent shopping opportunities are available, and we respect the individuals we serve by supporting their choices to use their money in ways that are meaningful to them.

A Focus on Comfort, Privacy, and Personalization

All of our homes feature individual bedrooms, providing each person with a private space where they can feel comfortable and secure. We encourage individuals to make their bedrooms their own by decorating and personalizing their space to reflect their unique tastes and interests. This emphasis on privacy and self-expression promotes dignity, independence, and a sense of ownership in their living environment.

Comprehensive Support Services

Our in-house services, including support from a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), ensure that every individual receives the personalized care they need to thrive. From behavior management strategies to life skills development, our team works closely with individuals and their families to create tailored plans that promote independence and success.
